PROFESSIONAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons, 30-week Guitar based program.

• This 30 week program from ACM in London is fully customized for us at Modern Music Academy and one of a kind.
• Designed to offer a guitarist the chance to study a serious but fun course and come out with a tangible set of products they can use to market them selves and or their bands. They will be developed as artists to showcase level and will graduate with a full pack for promoting themselves, inluding a demo CD, an electronic press kit and an online presence.
• Includes 12 hours per week with tutorials and built in studio time for rehearsals & recording.
• Each student can also book up to 10 hours of additional studio time thoughout the year with their MMA band.
• Students will be expected to work on a variety of music-based projects, rehearse extensively, perform at our showcases and at the final Graduation show in May.

Course Content & Modules
Module 1 – Technical Development (Guitar) *OPEN: Ask about taking this module 'a la carte'
This module looks at developing the student as a guitar player*, and introduces elements of music theory vital to being a competent player. This includes sight reading, scales, advanced chords, technique and improvisation. Every student will finish with a greater understanding of the guitar and music theory. *Drummers and Bass players may also be considered for placement. Talk to us about how this works…
Module 2 – Introduction to Music Business *OPEN: Ask about taking this module 'a la carte'
This series of lectures examines various professional areas of the music industry, including study of marketing tools, contractual issues and career opportunities. Students will finish with a greater understanding of the industry & where they might fit. Every student will finish with a promo pack for their music, including a Demo CD (Demo Production & Software Module) an Electronic Press kit & an online presence for Social networking and fan base development.
Module 3 – Demo Production & Software *OPEN: Ask about taking this module 'a la carte'
This module provides an understanding of the studio environment and the variety of set up procedures necessary when operating in a commercial studio. Students get hands on experience tracking, mixing & mastering a demo CD with Industry standard software including Logic and some ProTools.
Module 4 –Performance & Stage Skills
This module equips students for professional performance situations through practical
rehearsal in a professional environment, with development feedback & encouragement from tutors who look at band dynamics, stage communication, stage craft and presentation. The songs will be a combination of covers learned in the Repertoire & Preparation module & originals written by the students in the Songwriting & Styles module.
Module 5 –Repertoire & Preparation
This module provides students with the opportunity to learn a variety of material where different arrangements and techniques will be discussed and applied. This module prepares students for rehearsals and performances in the Performance & Stage Skills module.
Module 6 –Songwriting & Styles
This unit allows students to develop their composition skills through the practical study of
various industry techniques and stylistics. It includes studying a range of styles, in turn encouraging students to develop the ability to recreate and re-interpret. These songs will be recorded in the Demo Production & Software module & some will be performed at the end of year Showcase.

SCHEDULE 2010 - 2011 (REVISED)
30 Weeks total (Break for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break in April).
Schedule Tuesday, Wed, Friday,1- 5.00 pm.
Orientation Friday Sept 17, 1 - 3 pm
Sessions start Monday Sept. 20, 1 - 5.00 pm
Final Performance & Graduation date in late May, to be confirmed.
APPLICATION & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• Application Interview / Audition required
• For Guitarists (Bass / Acoustic or Electric) & Drummers Considered
• Age 16+ (Mature students welcome)
• Besides their instrument, students will need headphones and regular access to a computer with Microsoft Office.
